Storyline:
After years of humiliation and failed attempts to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award, Pirate Captain and his oddball crew take on the cream of the pirating crop - Black Bellamy, Peg Leg Hastings and Cutlass Liz - in a race to pillage the most booty. They soon cross paths with lovelorn scientist Charles Darwin, who persuades the Captain that the crew's prized 'parrot', Polly, could be the answer to the 'untold riches' they are searching for. Their adventure takes them to Victorian London where they meet Darwin's sidekick 'man-panzee' Mister Bobo, and the notorious pirate-hating Queen Victoria herself. It soon unfolds that Darwin's motives for helping the crew are not what they seem, and the Queen has an evil hidden agenda of her own. The Pirate Captain must choose between basking in the glory of being crowned Pirate of the Year, or staying faithful to his trusted crew.

We chose to see this movie because my family are big shawn of the sheep fans. We like that British humor and occasional laughs. This is what Pirates was. Similar in humor and the story was easy enough to follow for my young daughter. There were some funny moments, but I felt that most of them were braodcast on the commercials, so you're really not missing much as an adult. All together, I think I didnt waste my money on the tickets because the kids really enjoyed it.

The film was pretty good. There was a lot of hidden things if you caught it that would make you laugh. You have to really pay attention. But as for the characters its great. Been waiting for another claymation movie for a while. IF YOU HAVE KIDS GO SEE IT.

Went with family ages 2, 5, 20s, and 40+ -- everyone had a similar feel for the movie. The story was fine, the humor was mostly of an adult nature, and the children lost interest after the first hour. I was a bit surprised that they used the word "ass" (and not in reference to a donkey like in Shrek), and thought some of the supposed subtle adult humor was too obvious for the younger audience. I don't anticipate the children asking for this DVD and I wouldn't be interested in owning it either. For one-time viewing it was okay, but not a keeper. If you are sensitive about screening what your children watch, you may want to skip this one. Fine for the older group.

Many of the jokes sail over the heads of young children like an errant cannon blast. The movie is filled with references to London of several centuries past, with characters such as Charles Darwin, Jane Austen and the Elephant Man stopping in for a punchline or more. It keeps the adults reasonably entertained but my seven year old daughter did not love this movie as much as she expected. Not nearly as funny or endearing as it could have been.
I don't have enouge airtime now sorry
